DEER HUNT

The following statement is from Hale Smith about the Deer Hunt.

I would like to personally thank everyone that helped out with the deer hunt this year! The hunt was very successful despite the hunting conditions. There were very few complaints from hunters and high compliments on the hospitality from all the volunteers, landowners, guides, school personnel, etc. Preliminary numbers show that we are very close to our lofty goal of $60,000.00. This would not be possible without a team effort by many people. Also, our landowners seem to be very pleased with our selective harvest guidelines. All bucks harvested were mature, had 8 points or better, and were intended to be mounted by each lucky hunter. This type of hunt will build confidence with landowners who are on a quality deer management program. Throughout the upcoming year, everyone can all help by spreading the word about the type of hunt we held and encouraging landowners to participate in this very important fundraiser for our school and community.

Marengo Academy Deer Hunt

Hunter Package $1,000.00 per hunter

Trophy Package $1,500.00 per hunter

(Hunter Package) Includes:

Guided or semi-guided hunts

Lodging

Meals

Cleaning and storage of your rack and venison

(Trophy Package) Includes:

Guided or semi-guided hunts on some of the most undisturbed and trophy managed property in the area (number of hunters limited to 20 to insure a high quality hunting experience. The 2009 Trophy Hunt produced 8 trophy bucks (8 point or better) out of 10 hunters (80%).

Lodging at the spacious and comfortable Cedar Hill Lodge located in Thomaston. Cedar Hill Lodge is located very close to the trophy managed properties.

Trophy Bass Fishing is available between morning and afternoon hunts.

Meals

Cleaning and storage of your rack and venison

Landowner and state game laws apply

50% payment due by November 1, 2009 to reserve spot

Schedule

Thursday

Hunters register at Marengo Academy around noon and lunch is served. Shortly after lunch, you will meet your guide and head to the stand. After the hunt, you will be treated to some good southern cuisine and stories about the day’s hunts. Get a good night’s sleep and be ready for the next day of hunting.

Friday

The morning hunt will last until around 10 a.m. Then you can enjoy lunch and a nap or some trophy bass fishing before heading to the stand .The afternoon hunt will start around 2 p.m. and be followed by another round of good food and relaxation at one of the lodges.

Saturday

Same schedule as Friday. Departure after your Saturday evening hunt will be at your leisure.
